Useful advices on feeding with fish food S.A.K.

S.A.K. has been first introduced in 1994. S.A.K. is a full-value extruded fish food suitable for all species and sizes of tropical fish. EXOT HOBBY s.r.o. (Ltd) is an exclusive producer of all S.A.K. products.

5 C of fish food S.A.K.:

COMPOSITION: precise content of nutrients, vitamins and minerals, plus balanced proportion of meat and plant components ensure healthy development and quick growth of the fish.

CONSUMPTION: high energetic value of all S.A.K. products and their high digestibility ensure lower consumption, amounting to about 60% in comparison with other types of food.

CONSIDERATION: great water consideration - S.A.K. saves your time (it is not disintergrating and tempering the water) and protects your fish (helps to avoid infection by decreasing excrement quantity).

COLOURING: added natural pigments and algae ensure great colours of the fish. The result will be best visible when a natural colour of the fish is yellow, orange or red.

COSTS: convenient prices and price discounts for bulk orders for everyone!

S.A.K. is an extruded product. Extrusion is a process that increases digestibility of the food. During extrusion the cells of all organic substances contained in the food are disintegrated under pressure. The nutrients hidden in these cells are thus easily accessible for digesting agents, resulting in much higher digestibility in comparison with e.g. flaked food.

ADDED NATURAL PIGMENTS AND ALGAE: help promoting wonderful colors in the fish. They are:

Astaxantine
Red paprika pigment
Chlorella (contains substances considered as a growth factor)
Dunaliella (highest concentration of carothenoids out of all algae)
Spirulina (rich source of proteins, carotenoids, vitamins and minerals)

COLOUR OF THE FOOD: is distinct due to the added natural pigments. Unfed food has a distinctive colour thanks to which you can easily see how much your fish has eaten.

PACKAGE: 50 g (100 ml) and 125 g (250 ml) plastic screwable containers - retailerīs package (suitable for pet shops).
1,5 kg (3 400 ml) and 4,5 kg (10 200 ml) buckets
0,5 kg and 1 kg refills wrapped in PE bags - intended for private breeders

LABELS: with an EXOT HOBBY characteristic logo are easily recognizable from most of other brands. Promotion leaflets and samples can be obtained upon request.

SIZE CLASSIFICATION: All S.A.K. fish food versions (except the koi floating food) are produced in six particle (granule) sizes (see the table below). This way it is possible to meet the needs of all life stages of the fish from fry to adult ones.

Size classification Particle size Recommended fish size
size 00 0,01-0,4 mm 1 - 2 cm
size 0 0,4-0,6 mm 2 - 3 cm
size 1 0,7-1,0 mm 3 - 5 cm
size 2 1,0-1,4 mm 5 - 7 cm
size 3 1,5-2,2 mm 7 - 13 cm
size 4 2,3-3,3 mm > 13 cm

Useful advices on feeding with fish food S.A.K.

It is not desirable to overfeed the fish. An overfed fish is not able to digest the food properly. Unused nutrients end up in the water where they cause water tempering and infection. The outcome could be disapponting!
We advice to use S.A.K. reasonably - its energetic value is high and even little doses bring excellent results. All S.A.K. products have a ballanced content of nutrients so you donīt need to feed the fish with any supplements. You can use different foods, however, to alter your fish menu.

If the fish are not used to getting granulated food it will probably take them a certain time to get used to it. At the beginning we recommend to feed them with just small amounts of S.A.K. till they start to pick it up. This process, however, shouldnīt take more than one week.

All S.A.K. products are suitable for feeding automats.

High quality of S.A.K. fish food has already been appreciated by the top Czech as well as foreign breeders. After many years of testing we can honestly say that our own fish prefer S.A.K. to any other food. We believe you make the same experience and S.A.K. will become your good help-mate.

History and developement of S.A.K. products

S.A.K. is a special fish food developed especially for warm-water fish. First version of S.A.K., S.A.K. 50 - E, originated in a specially modified trout food (see the article bellow for more information).

Creator of S.A.K. and a long time breeder Tomas Suchanek was well aware of a gap on the fish food market in the Czech Republic. He had an idea about what a good fish food should be like. Unfortunatelly at that time (around 1992) no one in the Czech Republic could have produced it. So he travelled Europe and looked for a suitable producer (in Italy, France, Holland, Denmark...). Eventually he succeeded in Germany. The KRONEN company from Wesel has been producing S.A.K. 50-E. 10 tons of this version had been sold in next 9 years.

However, due to a new EU regulation, the German company finished the fish food production in April 2001. Tomas Suchanek was forced to look for a new producer again. He finally decided to collect sufficient funds and produce the food himself in a small plant in the South Bohemia. Tomas Suchanek has never stopped searching and testing the best combination of nutrients, minerals, vitamins and pigments for his fish. After 18 months his hard work brought its fruits - new, enhanced formula called S.A.K. 55. During creation of S.A.K. 55, he was using three important sources: 1) his own forty year experience with everyday fish feeding, 2) know-how of the prime Czech and foreign ichtyologists and 3) the experience and needs of hundreds of our customers.

At the beginning of August 2002 an improved formula of S.A.K. 55 entered the market. An excellent feedback from hundreds of breeders convinced us about the singularity of our product. To make sure S.A.K. fish food meets growing requirements for tropical fish breeding, we are constantly working on its further improvement. After two years on the market, S.A.K. 55 prooved to be one of no. 1īs Czech fish food.

Since 2002 Tomas Suchanek has been developing and testing new versions of S.A.K. - S.A.K. green, S.A.K. energy, S.A.K. gold, S.A.K. mix and S.A.K. koi. All these versions have been introduced at the INTERZOO 2004 trade show in Nuremberg, Germany.

Three reasons why is S.A.K. 55 better than the trout food

S.A.K. 50 - E was a foregoer of S.A.K. 55. It was a modified trout food with a reduced fat content, which made it more suitable for tropical fish feeding.

However, S.A.K. 55 is no longer a modified trout food. It is a high quality tropical fish food considerate to water and satisfying growing demands of the fish. A high concentration of nutrients (which are of a natural origin only!) supplemented by important vitamins and minerals have a positive influence on the quick growth and healthy developement of the fish.

S.A.K. 55 has a declared content of 9% of fat - no more, no less. Letīs compare it with the trout food to emphasize how different S.A.K. 55 is:

  1. Trout food is ment for cold-water fish who need more energy. Thatīs why its fat content is high - between 13-25 %. A bearable amount for tropical fish is 10%. Higher level of fat brings a risk of fattines- fertility problems, liver degeneration etc.
  2. Trout food is produced with no respect for detritus. For professionals is the quantity of detritus (a rate of how much the fish eats and how much it excretes) very important. Trout food "brings" 10-25% of detritus, S.A.K. 55 only 5-10%. This fact directly influences the level of water tempering - the more undigested particles the more work for a breeder and the bigger risk of infections, mold etc.
  3. Trout food contains Beta-carotene (mainly a synthetic one) to improve the color of the fish. However, this Beta-carotene needs to react with a direct sunlight in a fish stomach to have any efect on the fish coloration. Most of the breeders, however, try to avoid the contact with a direct sun light to decrease the probability of the growth of algae. S.A.K. 55 uses natural pigments - red paprika and astaxantine - which are contained in a live food. Both of these pigments react well with an artificial light.
